Super Bowl 56, scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium in California, has a backup plan: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

NFL officials are evaluating AT&T Stadium in Arlington as a possible replacement site for Super Bowl LVI, scheduled for Feb. 13 in Los Angeles. The current COVID-19 situation in California has NFL officials looking into backup plans just in case.

The availability of AT&T Stadium is one of the venues the league has explored in putting together its contingency plan, sources said. This is part of the due diligence the league does every year and there have been no detailed discussions about moving the event.

“We plan on playing Super Bowl LVI as scheduled at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 13,” an NFL spokesman said in a statement. “As part of our standard contingency planning process that we conduct for all regular and postseason games, we have contacted several clubs to inquire about stadium availability in the event we cannot play the Super Bowl as scheduled due to weather-related issues or unforeseen circumstances. Our planning process for the Super Bowl in Los Angeles is ahead of schedule and we look forward to hosting the Super Bowl there to culminate another fantastic NFL season for our fans and clubs.”
