NFL SÃO PAULO: ANTICIPATION OF THE LARGEST INFLUX OF AMERICANS TO
BRAZIL IN A UNIQUE EVENT, WITH 10% OF THE US AUDIENCE
GUSTAVO PIRES AFFIRMS THAT SÃO PAULO HAS THE LARGEST HOTEL NETWORK IN
LATIN AMERICA AND DEMOGRAPHIC ROBUSTNESS UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT
In an exciting announcement, São Paulo has been selected as the venue for the next epic NFL showdown in
2024. Under the title “NFL Brasil,” this event promises to make history as the largest influx of American
visitors to Brazil in a single event, with an estimated 10% of the audience coming from the United States.
Gustavo Pires emphasizes that the projected 10% audience from the United States is significant and
highlights the event’s importance for Brazilian tourism and the economy. He points out that the presence of
Americans at the event will contribute to strengthening the relationship between the two countries and will
boost the service sector, including hotels, restaurants, and transportation.
Furthermore, Pires stresses that the arrival of a large contingent of Americans in Brazil for a sporting event
can bring lasting benefits to national tourism. Showcasing the country as an attractive destination for
Americans may encourage more visits in the future and boost other economic sectors.
Gustavo Pires also highlights the importance of event organization, both in terms of logistics and
infrastructure. To accommodate many international fans, the country must be prepared to offer a unique
and satisfactory experience. The expert emphasizes the importance of investments in security,
transportation services, communication, as well as tourist attractions to ensure that visitors have an
unforgettable stay.
Based on these estimates and projections, the positive impact of hosting international sporting events like
the NFL on the development of Brazilian tourism and the economy becomes evident.
It will be one of the biggest events in the history of São Paulo and Brazil. Mayor Ricardo Nunes leads the
efforts diligently, and we know it will be the beginning of a long and lasting partnership between the NFL
and Brazil.” – Gustavo Pires
The city of São Paulo, with its impressive hotel network and demographic robustness, is ready to host this
major sporting event. With nearly 12 million inhabitants and a state population of 46 million, São Paulo
stands out as an excellent tourist destination, prepared to provide an unforgettable experience to visitors.
Brazil is on the verge of achieving a historic feat by becoming the first nation in South America to host an
event of the National Football League (NFL). With American football solidifying as the most-watched event
in the United States in 2023, with 94 out of the top 100 television programs being NFL games, the country
is poised to witness the largest audience ever recorded for this sport.
With a population of 214.3 million Brazilians, Brazil stands out as a potentially lucrative market for the NFL.
The city of São Paulo is projected to generate $60 million with the hosting of this historic game, establishing
itself as the fourth country outside the United States to host an official NFL game. ARENA CORINTHIANS,
chosen as the event venue, will guarantee Corinthians approximately R$3 million.
Additionally, the NFL has intensified its efforts in sports internationalization, granting 26 International
Marketing Area rights to 18 teams in 2021. This strategy aims to strengthen the league’s presence in global
markets, such as Brazil, where 38.3 million sports enthusiasts have already been identified, making the
country the second largest outside the US in terms of the number of fans, behind only Mexico, with 39.6
million.
Brazil will go down in history as the fifth country to host a regular NFL season game outside the United
States, joining England, Mexico, Canada, and Germany. While London already has three confirmed games
for 2024, Munich is also preparing to host one. Sponsorship and media agreements remain 100% with the
league, consolidating the partnership between the NFL and Brazil and strengthening the commitment of
both parties to expanding the reach of American football and engaging passionate fans worldwide.
Hosting the NFL game in Brazil will not only benefit local businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, and
transportation services but will also create a variety of job opportunities for the local community. From
event management teams to security personnel, and from hospitality services to merchandise sales, there
will be numerous temporary and permanent job opportunities.
The NFL’s decision to host this game in Brazil demonstrates its commitment to expanding the reach of
American football and engaging passionate fans worldwide. This event reinforces Brazil’s status as a global
destination for prominent sports.
