Northland Pines Boys Claim Regional Soccer Final Win over Barron

Report shared by Northland Pines Head Soccer Coach Rodney Sternhagen
Well, when you get to this time of the year, you have to bring your best. Being the 1 seed is tough because there is no coasting under the radar as every team wants to knock you off and bring their best.  That is exactly what the Pines boys faced today.  A tough disciplined Barron soccer team.  They were prepared and did not stop coming.  This was the best team we faced this year. It was a battle but we had much of the possession but in the first half with the wind at their back Barron was able to counter well. End of the first half of the game  both teams kept the score sheet blank.  Pines started to gain momentum in the second half mounting attack after attack and having most of the possession that half.  Barron however stayed composed and continued to shut down our attacks.  It was looking like both teams would need more time to decide this contest. That was until Guilherme Amirez Fonseca drew a triple team mark and was able to open Cody Vojta making an angled run into the box and taking a left footed ball in the low right corner 76:31 in the game.  From that point we kept possession keeping the ball to the outside and allow the seconds to tick off the clock taking balls near the corner to secure the Division 4 Regional championship! Hats of to Barron hard working team and deserve recognition! Thank you for a battle and a true playoff soccer game.
