Northland Pines Downs Antigo for First Win

Well the game starts and Pines boys finally were able to possess and string a bunch of passes.  Scoring came early when Morgan Depuydt played a crossing ball, the goalie attacked the angled ball and Mason shot out like a cannon and beat the keeper to the ball tapping it by and slid it in the back of the net.  10 minutes later AJ Muench made and angled run to the right corner crossing the ball across the goal mouth and the keeper dropped the ball and Mason Jahnke knocked the ball in for his second goal. At that point we pulled Mason who is still healing and wanted to try younger players.  End of half Pines 2-0.

We came out second half and possessed the ball and attempted to play the ball wide to stretch the D.  They did a great job with this tactic but multiple offside ended our attacks.  I think a number of them the refs were spot on but about 3-4 they did not understand the rule as they were calling forwards that were not making an active play on the ball.  We need to be more aware on our runs but when your teaching a skill and the calls are not accurate, I think this messes with the boys mindset.  After multiple balls and physical play in the box,  in the 54 minute Cody Vojta broke free on a break away 1 on 0 with the keeper and a solid body check by an Antigo defender put Cody on the ground earning a PK.  Cody found the back of the net and a 3-0 lead.

Much like every game this season we break down mentally and give up a big play. Antigo never gives up and created some counter attacks and on one we gave up a corner and my coaching partner said to the bench they are showing no urgency in marking in the box we are going to get scored on.  Antigo plays the corner and it finds an Antigo’s head and they score.  We had the game in hand  but we needed that shit out and understand that we cannot get lazy and break down. Final score Pines 3 Antigo 1 and Pines notches their first win.
