Northland Pines Earns Wins over Barron, Newman Catholic

Northland Pines hosted Barron in the first game of the double dual while Three Lakes and Newman Catholic played on the JV field.  The pines boys took possession early and controlled the game from the start.  They had a number of opportunities but it took almost 30 minutes to score when AJ Muemnch came across the field left to Right taking a long shot the keeper got a hand on it but could not hold on to the hard shot and Morgan crashed the net to take out the garbage for a 1-0 lead.  I had talked about getting shots off and crashing the net.  Be hungry to score goals as we are struggling to score and that’s what happened.  At that point even though we only had one goal I started giving rest to players that would play most of both games.  The play of game did not change but we could not find the back of the net and went into half with a 1-0 lead.  The score did not show the dominant possession the Pines boy had!  Seven minutes into the second half freshman Ryan Rydeski made and angled run with a nicely placed pass the the corner of the 18 from Carson Adamovich. Ryan got behind the defender and was checked in the box drawing a PK.  Cody Vojta ripped the PK in the upper left corner of the net with no chance for a save. Pines up 2-0. At this point I emptied the bench getting valuable varsity playing time for my JV boys and those that get very little varsity playing time. These boys played hard and we continued to dominate the possession and the game.  Just before the 60 th minute.  Carson Adamovich made beautiful cross and a crashing Morgan Depuydt headed the ball in the back of the net for his beautiful second goal of the game and Pines  up 3-0.  Despite the lower score this is tied for the most goals we scored all year so I am liking the goal production.  The defense was stellar and there was never a real threat. It was a very physical and at points dangerous play, but we got out with minor injuries.

After just an hour break we had to assemble a banged up team to play the second game against Newman Catholic who came off a game one battle that ended in a 3-3 tie with Three Lakes. Just like the first game we possessed well and controlled the game but their center back was fast and foiled our attack time and time again.  He had a strong leg and  11 minutes into the game he booted the ball and a bit of miscommunication between defenders and keep and their talented false 9 found a goal from right into the far left corner.  The boys didn’t give up and controlled possession but would head into half down 0-1.  At half we talked about forcing their center back wide and wear him down.  The boys did just that. With 3 starters out and two playing injured they believed they were the better team and showed it in their play dominating possession. In the 53 minute senior Zach Ritter came across the middle about 25 yards out across the goal beating three defenders ripped and absolute Lazer in the right hand top corner and impossible shot for the keep tying the game. 1-1 tie and that boosted the boys and they stepped up the game even more. Less than 7 minutes later Carson Adamovich played a bomb from left to Right out of the reach of the keeper in the top right corner.  Again we were able to log a ton of varsity minutes for the younger boys putting a great deal of freshman on the field.  At the beginning of second half my senior stopper goes out with an an injury and freshman Tyler Vojta stepped up and played composed as the right back.  Both games showed the level of play we are capable and in both games it does not show how we controlled these games for about 140 minutes.  We were able to make our mark against regional opponents all without our senior top goal scorer out with injury. We were able to rest players and more importantly log needed minutes for the young players.
