Northland Pines Edged by Regis in Girls Soccer Playoffs

Pines 0 Regis 1

Wow! I was hoping the girls would play with a chip on their shoulder with the feeling they were underrated.  They played their heart out and went toe to toe with a 15-1-1 number 1 seed school to the 68th minute.  Unfortunately it was a game similar to the losses we had this season.  We were not always the inferior team one or two mental errors cost us games this season and this was not different today.  I am not sure if it was the 3 plus hour bus ride, the flu bug that has been ravaging the team, or maybe the skill and high pressure of Regis, but they we off and gave too much space on the flanks and allowed them to turn and attack.  Regis also was poised under pressure and would pass the ball back to their defenders and we were reactionary instead of reading the play and taking that away and countering.  Second half Regis put on a strong push and our girls were fatiguing and we were force to adjust defensively and move our senior striker back to defense.  At.one point we were forced to sub a number of our defenders and our continuity suffered.  In the 68th minute the ball found a Regis forward just outside the 18, who immediately looked for their star forward and we had her marked but it was like a slow motion play, we e gave the forward space she looked to get rid of it and showed no desire to keep it but we gave her so much time and space she decided to kick it finding the left corner of the net.  So similar to most games that mental breakdown cost us the game.  That seemed to light a fire under our girls and the next  12 minutes was possessed and on Regis end and finally producing scoring threats but was too little too late.  I want to thank our seniors for all their time, effort, tears, triumphs, laughs and pouring their heart into the Northland Pines program.  We never want to see them go but know they are destined to do great things!  Thank you Olivia Eliason, Mallory Schmidt, captain Zoe Anderson, Captain Sarah Nagel and Captain Emma Weber.
