Northland Pines Edges Lakeland in Great Northern Conference Boys Soccer Classic

Pines 2 Lakeland 2 Pines wins  the shoot out making all 5 shots.

Report shared by Pines Head Coach Rodney Sternhagen

This game lived up to the hype.  Back and forth game.  Lakeland is a stingy defense and counters with speed. 21 minutes in we lost a mark and the secondary attack streaked in to take the pass and low corner. Lakeland up 1-0. Five minutes later Pines responded when Ryan Rydeski stole the ball from the attacker and found the target man Cody Vojta who deeked the goalie to tie the game up at one. In the 65 minute the hard work paid off when Cody Vojta dropped the ball back to Tyler Vojta who ripped the ball right to left and an attacking AJ Muench took the eyes away from the keeper and Tyler put Pines on top 2-1.  Lakeland is a hard working team and refused to quit while Pines match the intensity. Their center midfielder found a failed clear ball and attacked the right reside of the goal creating some confusion and our back came in hard on a tackle and fouled in the box giving up a Pk in the past thirty seconds.  The game ends in a heartbreaking tie but the Pines boys finished perfect with the shootout and securing the extra points with a perfect shootout win. Tip of the hat to Lakeland and their hard work.  That’s a true GNC battle!
