Northland Pines Soccer Takes Down Northland Lutheran

Well  about 12 hours after the rough end of the wire homecoming battle, the Pines boys had to load on the bus and travel to Wausau to play regional opponent Northland Lutheran. It was a windy rainy day, but Northland Lutheran came out hungry and the Pines boys were slow out of the gate.  We were.losimg every 50/50 ball early. Northland Lutheran struck first when their winger got behind our defender and finish a nice shot.  That seemed to wake up out players and they responded with two goals , when Carson Adamovich passed and.angled ball to AJ Muench   late in the first half . This was follow by another one in the last minute of the half when RJ Martinson threw the ball to Carson Adamovich s feet he killed the Northland d Lutheran defender and shot a 45 yard bomb over the outstretched keeper hands.  Second half we started with the ball and marched down and Ryan Rydeski crossed the ball and RJ Martinson slammed the ball in the top netting for a 3-1 lead in the first minute of the second half.  One minute later lightning struck and we were on a 30 minute delay.  When we came back this gave Northland Lutheran and opportunity to gain back momentum as we started playing some of the freshman boys.  They made a push, but a nice through ball from Zach Ritter to Mason Jahnke making it a 4-1 game.  With four boys out sick, we looked to the bench and many freshman logged playing time.  As were were playing with different personnel, our hopes were to get everyone off the bench and log varsity minutes.  After a slippery clearing attempt gave Northland Lutheran a corner our freshman failed to clear a ball in the box passing it right up the middle to their attacking player who pounded it in the net.  At that point the boys woke up again ann took control of the game. Mason Jahnke made crested run getting a beautiful lofted ball from Cameron  Birchbauer and raced past the defenders placing a beautiful left handed goal.  As they were lining up, they said he was offside and took back the goal.  Another angled ball found Mason getting his legs taken out in the box for what appeared to be a PK, but after discussion they called it just outside the box.  AJ Muench had one of the cross and another of the post, while we logged two more crossbars and three more posts to end the game 4-2 Pines.
