MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Voters narrowly chose to approve a School District of Marshfield referendum on November 5, 2024, which asked residents to approve a $71,575,000 bond. This funding was proposed to address long-standing facility needs within the school district.
The vote was close, with 7,820 voting “yes” and 7,617 voting “no”.
As the district issues general obligation bonds to fund this project, property owners will pay an additional annual tax based on their property’s assessed value. Specifically:
- For every $100,000 in property value, an extra $142 would be added to their annual property tax bill.
- This additional tax would apply each year for as long as the bonds are outstanding (i.e., until the district repays the bonds).
So, if someone owns a property valued at $300,000, they would pay an additional $426 in property taxes annually ($142 * 3) until the bonds are fully repaid.
This referendum marks the first facility improvement referendum since 2005, but a $3.5 million recurring referendum is in place from 2020.
