MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Nutz Deep II in Marshfield showed their support for 13 fallen U.S. soldiers killed in an Afghanistan bombing last week.
The bar and restaurant reserved a table and set out 13 glasses of beer with a floral centerpiece in recognition of those that gave their lives.
The soldiers were helping to evacuate U.S. allies at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, and were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel when an enemy attack resulted in an explosion killing 11 marines, one navy corpsman, and one soldier as well as at least 90 Afghans.
The fallen service members were:
- Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, 25, of Lawrence, Massachusetts
- Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, 23, of Sacramento, California
- Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, 31, of Salt Lake City, Utah
- Cpl. Hunter Lopez, 22, of Indio, California
- Cpl. Daegan W. Page, 23, of Omaha, Nebraska
- Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, 22, of Logansport, Indiana
- Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza, 20, of Rio Bravo, Texas

- Navy Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak, 22, of Berlin Heights, Ohio
- Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss, 23, of Corryton, Tennessee
Ann Dieringer of Nutz Deep II said this is simply something that the bar and restaurant wanted to do out of respect for those that gave their lives.
“It is just one small thing that we could do to honor these fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Dieringer said.
