Obituary for Andrew “Boots” Hornick

Andrew “Boots” M. Hornick, 87, Marshfield, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Reverend Samuel Martin officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 at the church following the service with burial taking place at a later date. A visitation will take place from 9:00 am until service time at the church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Andrew was born on November 24, 1931 in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Reinhold and Anna (Meichelbeck) Hornick. He served in the United States Army from 1952 until he was medically discharged in 1954. He was united in marriage to Elaine Schoenfuss on March 2, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford, Wisconsin. He served as Union Steward for Teamsters Local 442 and worked at Carquest until his retirement at the age of 67.

Andrew loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening, socializing and imparting his knowledge and wisdom on his grandkids or anyone who would listen, but most of all, he loved being with his family.

Andrew is survived by his wife, children, Randy (Karen) Hornick, Linda (Jack) Strenger, Lori (Stan) Scheibe, Judy (Dick) Varsho, and son-in-law, Jim Martin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carly (Aaron) Cook, Jared (Samantha) Hornick, Hannah Strenger, Zachary Strenger, Mara Martin, Cole Varsho, Bryan Scheibe, and Kurt Scheibe, as well as one great grandchild on the way. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Ann Heinzen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Cindy Martin, and sisters, Lucille Zellner, Dorothy Nikolai, Catherine Merkel, and Edna Lainge.

Memorials may be designated to St. John’s Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the palliative care unit and 4 North staff at the Marshfield Medical Center, as well as Judy Gadke for her loving support.
