Andrew John Peters, 28, of Marshfield, WI died Thursday, February 16, 2023, while courageously serving with the International Legion of the Defense of Ukraine.
Andrew was born July 12, 1994, in Ft. Riley, Kansas to Heather and John Peters. He attended Marshfield schools graduating in 2012. He joined the United States Army prior to graduation and shipped 4 days after his 18th birthday. He served a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2014 and was Honorably Discharged in mid- 2016. He had an extraordinary sense of right and wrong and believed it was his duty to serve where he could, continuing the family tradition of military service. He felt his time of service was not over and went to assist in Ukraine where he joined other countrymen and legionnaires from all over the world to assist with the defense of Ukraine. He was a strong proponent of doing what was honorable, even at great personal cost.
Andrew loved to learn other languages and spoke some fluently including Russian, Ukrainian, and French, as well as a little German. He loved to play hockey in his youth and continued with an adult pick-up league after his return home to Wisconsin. His gun repair skills and knowledge of weapons were unparalleled, and he repaired many guns for those who requested. He was employed at Fleet Farm in gun and ammo sales. Andrew also had a dear love and compassion for animals and loved being outdoors in all weather.
Andrew is survived by his parents, Heather and John Peters, his brother, Jordan, his beloved dogs Panzer and Pepper (his service dog), and family cats. He is further survived by maternal grandparents, Delmer and Charlotte Schug, of Athens, aunts and Godmothers Tina (Mark) Scott of Merrill and their children David and Katarina, and Ginger (Rick) Urmanski of Edgar and their children Brandon (Eva), Brittany, Melissa (Michael), Mindy (Tyler), and Olivia. He is survived by one maternal uncle, James (Sheila) Schug of Athens and their children Amber and Brienna. Paternal relatives include uncles James (Tammy) Peters and children Alec and Adria of La Crosse, and Roger (Shelly) Peters and daughter Allison of Oshkosh, and Great Aunt Kathryn (Jerry) Trice of Austell, GA and son, Will. Andrew is additionally survived by his dear family friends Angie Standifur (Don), and their family including his honorary “little brother” Jonathon, MacKenzee, and Gary, as well as his battle buddies fighting for justice without him in Ukraine. His battle buddies truly meant the world to him, and he could not say enough of how he cared about and loved his team.
Andrew was predeceased by great grandparents and a cousin Coltyn on his maternal side, and paternal great grandmother, Miriam Lloyd, as well as grandmother Elizabeth Peters and grandfather Herb Peters.

The visitation will be open to the general public and take place from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield. The funeral service will be for family, family friends, those who know the family or invite.
