Burton Juel Iverson, 99, passed away peacefully on Monday September 9, 2024. He was born on August 27,1925, in Red Wing, Minnesota, the son of Alfred and Ellen (Gustafson) Iverson.
Burt graduated from West Concord High School in Minnesota in 1943. His draft notice arrived shortly thereafter, and he served as a tank gunner in the Tenth Armored Division under Patton from January 1945 until the end of World War II. He received the Infantry Battle Badge, Bronze Star, and European Star. Burt was a proud WW II vet and a 75 year member of the American Legion.
Following discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1946, Burt graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950 with a degree in Business. He then became a National Bank Examiner, and later earned another degree from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
On September 14, 1957, Burt married Shirley Baumgardner in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were blessed to have celebrated over 66 wonderful years together, until her death in March.
After their marriage Burt and Shirley immediately moved to Pittsville, Wisconsin and assumed management of the People’s State Bank where Burt was the owner and president for 35 years. He also owned shares in the People’s State Bank of Augusta and Owen/Curtis Bank for several years and ran the People’s Insurance Agency. They retired in 1992 and became snowbirds in Naples, Florida. Many new memories were made there.
Burt was a generous, hardworking, spirited man who loved his Pittsville community. He is the last surviving member of the committee that created Lake Dexter, and was a major contributor to the Pittsville Library, and he also donated to many civic organizations to make Pittsville what it is today.
Burt was a member of the United Church of Christ in Pittsville, serving on the church council, the Pittsville Lions Club, the Pittsville VFW, and the American Legion. He also served on the Board of Directors for North Central Life Insurance Company in St. Paul, MN and was the Treasurer of the Wisconsin Bankers Association.
He enjoyed golfing in both Wisconsin and Florida, watching sporting events, and being out in nature, hunting in his younger years. He also took great interest in the Financial Markets. His favorite pastime though, was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Burt’s vibrant, funny personality always brightened up any room that he walked into. He never met a stranger; every person was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. He loved to make people laugh.
Burt is survived by his children, Eric (Debra) Iverson of Watertown, Melinda (Burl) Pate of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Andrew Iverson of River Falls. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Adam and Emma Iverson and Devin and Connor Langford.
Burt is also survived by his brothers-in law and sisters-in law, Judy (Jim) Stephens, Fred (Wendy) Baumgardner, Sherry (Marv) Kohlbeck, and Jan (Sam) Retka.
He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Burt was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his grandson Nicholas Iverson, his brother Aldrich (Lilamae) Iverson, a brother in infancy, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carole (Bob) Schmeider, and his sister-in-law Diane Baumgardner, as well as his parents.
