Debra J. Schar, 69, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Marshfield Health Services, surrounded by loved ones.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Dan Kolins will officiate. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield.
Debra was born on December 9, 1954, in Marshfield to Dennis and Audrey (Miller) Berg. She was a 1973 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and a lifelong resident of Marshfield. Like her mother before her, Debra lived a life of service. She is remembered for her work ethic, humor, and dedication to making each day a little brighter for those she served. As a single parent to two children, she modeled the value of hard work, serving as a nursing assistant, home health aide, bartender, cashier, and most recently, crossing guard for the children of Grant Elementary. Up until the very end, she was looking forward to returning to her post, and the children that brought her joy. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed shooting pool, darts, bowling, and spending time with family. She was a lifelong Packer fan, celebrating their recent success, and remembering the lean days, back when televised Polka was the pre-grame TV entertainment. Go, Pack, Go!
On April 29, 2000, Debra was united in marriage to Patrick J. Schar at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield. Although their time together was much too short, Debra was readily welcomed into the Schar family, and continued to receive their love and support after Pat’s passing.
Debra is survived by her loving sons, Chad (Jessica) Berg of Bozeman, MT, and Joshua (Bianca) Berg of Pittsville, as well as her five cherished grandchildren: Avery (24), Carter (21), Bradly (19), Nevaeh (17), and Mavrick (14). Debra is also survived by her siblings Mike (Sandy) Berg of Cape Coral, FL, Denise Berg of Marshfield, and Richard (Robbie) Berg of Marshfield.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Audrey Berg, her brother, Pat (Deb) Berg, and her beloved husband, Patrick J. Schar. Though her passing leaves a void, her compassion, service, and love will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to defray funeral expenses. The family would like to extend special thanks to the compassionate staff at Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield Health Services, and Heartland Hospice for their care and support.
May Debra rest in peace, knowing her legacy of service lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
