Delferd F. “Del” Kann, 95, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the House of The Dove, Marshfield.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, April 24, 2023, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where a gathering for family and friends will be from 10:00 am until service time. A grandson Kyle Kann will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 of Stratford. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County at a later date.

Del was born on February 14, 1928, to George and Mayme (Schultz) Kann in Wood County. He was united in marriage to Florence Beck on July 1,1952.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Armed Forces Military Police division.  After his honorable discharge, he became owner of a mink farm, worked in body shops and eventually became co-owner of Kann’s Service Station and Kann’s Mobile Home Park in Stratford.

Del Retired at the age of 62. He lived on the Eau Pleine flowage for 47 years where he and Florence spent many years, perfecting their home, yard and making many friends in the Maryel Subdivision. He spent his later years building specialty bird houses. Besides decorating his property with these beautiful pieces of art, he enjoyed giving them to family and friends. Later in life he enjoyed putting together puzzles with Florence and then framing them.

He loved boating and being out on the pontoon with neighbors and friends, and also fishing on the Eau Plaine flowage. He was an avid member of BEPCO in an effort to help manage the water level.   He also enjoyed deer hunting, many times taking a boat across the river when it was frozen with his son David on opening weekend.

Del was known for his mechanical and technical skills. He restored a 1957 Carver wood boat that he took great pride in.  He did many odd jobs for people in the neighborhood, including his family and friends.  It seemed like when anyone needed something fixed, they came to Del, and he was always willing to help them out.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Florence (Beck) Kann of Marshfield. And their children, Jeff (Terry Ann) Kann of Seymour WI, Perry (Denise) Kann of Stratford, and Laurie (Art) Young of Auburndale WI, and a daughter-in-law, Erin Waddell of Stratford. He is also survived by grandchildren, Curtis (Amber) Kann, Kyle (Angie) Kann, Zachary (Shawna) Young, Dylan Young Levi (Autumn) Young and Emily (Brandon) Lapp and eight great grandchildren, Elliot, Beckham, Emery and Caroline Young, Shane and Gabe Kann and McKenzie and Grace Kann. He is further survived by a sister, Carol Felhofer of Marshfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David, siblings Kenny, Robert (Derb), Jim, George Jr., Jane Brandt and Pat Kurtzweil.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff who helped Del in the later stages of life from the Aster community, and especially from Senior Service and the House of the Dove.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family who will make a donation to the House of Dove.
