Doris Jean (Eckes) Bornowski was called to her eternal rest on Friday, February 5, 2021, at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Merrill.
She was born October 21, 1924, to Nicholas and Margaret (Boening) Eckes in Wausau, WI. On April 14, 1945, she was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Arnold R. Bornowski. Together they farmed in the town of Wien until 1966 when they moved to Stratford. She held different jobs within the village until 1995 when they retired and moved to their cottage in beautiful Harrison Hills near Gleason. She had enjoyed a gin martini on occasion. She loved baking, playing card games with family and friends, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, parents Nick & Margaret Eckes, brothers LeRoy and Eugene Eckes, and sisters Loretta Lodholz and Arlene Eckes. As well as brothers and sisters in law.
She is survived by her children, sons James (Laurie) Bornowski of Minocqua, Allen Bornowski of Wausau, and daughter Barbara (Larry) Aschebrock of Gleason. She is also survived by grandchildren, Scott Bornowski, Todd (Rebecca) Bornowski, Jerret Parker, Ashlee Huempfner, Aaron (Angela Tikka) Bornowski, Leah (Eric) Stubb and Lora(Brian) Keith and great grandchildren, Marcus and Renee Bornowski, AJ Bornowski, Brett and Braylee Huempfner. She is further survived by special friends Paul and Sandy Untiet and friends at the Donald Sykes Housing unit in Stratford.
Private family services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at 2 PM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (High Steeple Church), 119415 Huckleberry Rd, Edgar, where visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time. The service will be live-streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Rev. Chad Schopp will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Due to the Covid pandemic, face masks and social distancing will be observed.
A special thank you to the kind nurses and staff at the Pinecrest Nursing Home and Rev. Chad Schopp for his many prayers and visits to mom during her last days.
