Duane E. Guden, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Abbotsford Health Care Center.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield, visitation will be from 9:00 am until time of service, Rev. Daniel Thelen will officiate. Burial will be at St Mary’s Cemetery in Auburndale with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 9:00 am prior to the visitation.
Duane was born on February 1, 1938, in Auburndale, to Arthur Sr. and Agnes (Dillinger) Guden. He began his education at St. Mary’s one room school in Auburndale. Later he continued his education at Sacred Heart School in Marshfield.
On May 16, 1959, he married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Pacourek, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield. She passed away on April 27, 2019.
As a young man, Duane was employed at Craft’s Trading Center, Rollohome, and Crown Olds Cadillac, all in Marshfield. In 1968, Duane and Betty purchased the family farm south of Marshfield where he farmed with his family until retirement. While farming, Duane instilled a strong work ethic into his children and grandchildren. He had a deep love for the land and all his animals. He also demonstrated many talents. These included mechanical and body work, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.
Duane’s hobbies included square dancing in his younger years, collecting antique cars, and involving his family in car shows and parades.
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he was an usher and an adult mass server. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799.
He is survived by five daughters and one son, Jane (Jeff) Hoeser, Billy (Margie) Guden, Debbie (Scott) Hanson, Janalee (Dean) Johnson, Sandy (Brian) Fox, and Sara Guden, and a son-in-law Terry Joseph. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren with another expected. He is further survived by sister Janice (Dennis) Krahn, sisters-in-law, Delores Guden, Angie Guden, Donna (Jerry) Specht, and Kathy (Bill) Schrader, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Jean Joseph, two sons and brother in infancy, sister MaryJane Baerwald, brothers, Arthur Jr., Phillip, Jerry, and Eugene, and sister-in-law, Annette Guden.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Abbotsford Health Care Center for their wonderful and loving care.
A memorial will be designated at a later date.
