Earl Basil Polasek, 82, Marshfield, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, Marshfield. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John’s Catholic Church. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
Basil was born on February 10, 1936 in the Town of Green Valley, Marathon County, to William and Eleanor (Bartkoviak) Polasek. He was a 1954 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and he then obtained a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He was a veteran of the United States Army 3rd Infantry Division serving from August 27, 1957 as a Specialist 5 and helicopter crew chief stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on June 7, 1960. He married Bernice D. Baumann on October 15, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Halder. She died on May 27, 2012.
Basil was employed at Felker Brothers Manufacturing for 42 years until his retirement in 1995. He had been active with the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Leader and then Scoutmaster. He was most proud of his 3 Eagle Scouts (his sons). He also received his private pilot license. In addition to flying, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, model airplane building and winemaking. After retirement he and Bernice traveled to Churchill, Canada, Branson, MO, Las Vegas, NV, Alaska, Washington DC and took a rail trip to Yellowstone National Park and many other places in addition to visiting family.
He is survived by his children, Janet (Doug) Janssen of Stevens Point, Bruce (Kimberly) Polasek of Shiocton and Philip (Leslie) Polasek of Littleton, CO and a daughter-in-law, Ann Polasek of White Bear Lake, MN. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Britny (Nik) Hovde, Andrew (Kayla) Polasek, Matthew (Janel) Janssen, Clair Janssen, Kevin Janssen, Kate Polasek, Lauren Polasek and Luke Polasek and 2 great grandchildren, Willa Hovde and Owen Jans sen. He is further survived by a brother and 2 sisters, Norman (Jane) Polasek, Delores Wright, all of Green Bay, and Joann Gregory of Rothschild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son Brian.
