Emil H. Mundt, 96, Pittsville, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pittsville with Rev. Gary Markworth officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 153 – Pittsville following the service at church. Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids and serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michiel Mundt, Jared Fox, Joseph Mundt, Doug Mundt Jr., Jeff Okonek, Evan Haley, and Nathan Russell.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 14 at Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home in Pittsville and from 9:30 am until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Emil was born on February 7, 1927 in the Town of Wood, Wood County to Louis and Anna (Dempze) Mundt. He served in the United States Navy in World War II from 1945-1946, stationing in Great Naval Lakes, Long Island, NY, San Diego Naval Base, USS Herkimer (cargo ship), Decommissioned Ships (guns, etc.), Japan, Korea, and Philippines. He graduated from Pittsville High School in 1947. On September 25, 1954 he was united in marriage to Gladys Jansen at Vesper Christian Reformed Church in the Town of Sherry.

He farmed in Pittsville and worked at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids for 44 years. 

He enjoyed baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was also a Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan and he enjoyed watching Giannis play for the Milwaukee Bucks. In 2011, he participated in the Honor Flight, the trip of a lifetime, and the Dream Flight.

He is survived by his 6 children, Ronald Mundt, Gerald (Karen) Mundt, Douglas (Diane) Mundt, all of Pittsville, Daniel (Pam) Mundt of Marshfield, Susan (Scott) Fox of Pittsville and Philip Mundt of Pittsville. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathan) Russell, Douglas (Heather) Mundt, Jr., Jackie (significant other – Marc Rundell) Mundt, Michiel Mundt, Jenna (Jeff) Okonek, Jared (Briana) Fox, Melinda Mundt, Megan (Mike) Wilson, Joseph Mundt and Evan Haley, and 16 great grandchildren, Regan, Madison, Taylor, McKinley, Lincoln, and Jackson Russell, Samantha, Molly, Audrey, and Benjamin Mundt, and Brooklynn, Lucas, Marcus, and Madelynn Okonek, Marshall Mundt, and Braylie Fox. He is further survived by his brother, Oswald (Lorraine) Mundt and sister-in-law, Carol (Ron) Schaff.

He was predeceased by his parents, wife, a daughter, Cynthia in infancy, 2 grandsons, David and Christopher Mundt, and 1 great granddaughter, Emmeline Mundt.
