Eugene “Gene” J. Zygarlicke, age 85 of Marshfield, went peacefully to heaven to meet his Lord on March 25, 2022 at Marshfield Medical Center with family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield, Wisconsin at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 31, 2022 with Father James Weighner officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 am until time of service. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be immediately following the service at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are sons Ron, Steve, Roger, Dan, and David Zygarlicke, and son-in-law Jeff Breu.

Gene was born on February 20, 1937 in the Town of McMillan, Marathon County, to Myron and Nettie (Gliniecki) Zygarlicke, Sr. He was raised on the family farm, attended St. John’s Grade School, and graduated in 1955 from Columbus High School, both in Marshfield. After high school, he began employment at Rollohome Corporation in Marshfield. On October 4, 1958 Gene was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie A. Schweikl at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield.

Both growing up on farms, Gene & Marge decided farming was the life that they wanted to pursue. In 1959 they purchased the farm where they raised 10 children, many animals, and enjoyed life! Gene continued to live on the farm until his death.

Gene loved God, his family and his farm, in that order. He was a hardworking, selfless man. He was an Honorary Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, and a 4-H leader for 13 years. He enjoyed collecting John Deere toy tractors, watching the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and even attended some Packer games. He enjoyed fishing when he had the chance…especially catching his big Muskie, he would talk about. He loved having family get-togethers, the typical “loudness” of the Zygarlicke family having a good time, and nothing was better than a good game of sheepshead!

He was most proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Zygarlicke, children Ron (Lori) Zygarlicke, Steve (Ann) Zygarlicke, Jeanine (Jeff) Breu, Roger (Tracy) Zygarlicke, Lisa (Joe) Lobner, Dan (Linda) Zygarlicke, Renee (Gene) Noonan; Marilyn (Keith) Wagner, David (Nancy) Zygarlicke, and Denise Zygarlicke. He is also survived by grandchildren Alexandria Zygarlicke, Savannah (Jesse) Warren; Ethan Zygarlicke, Carlee Zygarlicke; Alyssa (Justin) Schaefer, Brianna Breu; April Zygarlicke, Tylor Zygarlicke (fiancé Natalie); Ryley Zygarlicke; Eleni (Ben) Berken, Emily (Brandon) Burroughs; Jaylyn, Peyton, Ella and Hanna Zygarlicke; great grandchildren, Aria, Truly, Ezra, Riot, Harper and baby on the way, as well as several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his brothers and sister, Myron (Donna) Zygarlicke, Peter (Mary Carol) Zygarlicke, Tom (Joan) Zygarlicke, Bonnie (Jerome) Bauer and Jim (Sandy) Zygarlicke, brother-in-law Eugene Hamus and sister-in-law Lois Zygarlicke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerald “Jerry” and William “Billy” Zygarlicke, sisters Wanda Hamus and Mary Ann Poplawski, and sister-in-law Nancy Zygarlicke.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the excellent care provided by Marshfield Medical Center – Palliative Care team throughout his journey to peace. God Bless You!

Memorials will be designated at a later date.
