George Giron, Jr., 86, Minocqua, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Marshfield Medical Center.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
George was born on October 28, 1933 in Chicago. IL, to George and Guadalupe (Talamentez) Giron, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. He had been employed at Acme Steel in Riverdale, IL for 40 years until his retirement. He then moved permanently to Minocqua, where he resided until the present time.
He groomed snowmobile trails and wrote the trail maps in Minocqua for the Forest Riders Snowmobile Club for 20 years. He also was a groundskeeper at Wildwood Country Club in Minocqua for 8 years.
He married Katheen M. Weltmeyer on July 10, 1992 in Markham, IL.
George is survived by his wife, Kathy, a daughter, Sandra (Fred) Suria of Virginia Beach, VA, a son, George A. (Filipia Platopoulos) of Belvidere, IL, a stepson, Norman F. Weltmeyer of Texas and a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Jon) Leist of Bessemer, Alabama. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Frederick Green Suria IV, Kyle Thomas Giron, Jaime Lynn Suria, Kimberly Marie Leist, Sarah Christine Leist, Sophia Panayiota Giron, Isaac George Leist and Olivia Donita Giron, and 2 great grandchildren, Frederick Green Suria V, and Weston James Suria. He is further survived by brothers, Joseph (Zada) Giron of Showlow, AZ, Richard (Barbara) Giron of Lansing, IL, a sister, Grace Wilkenson of Naperville, IL and many nieces and nephews, also many great friends, especially from Hazelhurst Pub.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Giron Sr. and Guadalupe Giron, a grandson Joseph Frederick Suria and a sister, Alice Giron.
