Jerry was born on September 11, 1949, in Marshfield to George and Gislene (Legue) Schlagenhaft. He attended Marshfield Catholic schools, graduating from Columbus High School in 1967. In 1969, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving a tour of duty in Chu Lai, Vietnam.
After returning home, Jerry began his career at Weyerhaeuser, where he met the love of his life, Sandy. The couple married on October 28, 1989. Later, Jerry discovered his true calling in masonry, launching his own business specializing in stone masonry and historic restoration.
In retirement, Jerry found his greatest joy in his grandchildren: Andon, Jorja, Jalynn, Rayleigh, Tianna, Nevaeh, and Josie. He cherished fishing, spending time up north, and creating lasting memories with his family.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy; his children, Robin Scherr, David (Tiffany) Scherr, Erik (Mishan) Schlagenhaft, and Stacey Schlagenhaft; and his brothers, Fred Schlagenhaft, Donald (Elizabeth) Schlagenhaft, and Philip (Pam) Schlagenhaft.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Allen and Steven; and one sister, Jacqueline.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Tiffany Scherr and St. Croix Hospice for their dedication in honoring Jerry’s wish to remain at home in his final days. A special thanks also to Dr. Isaac Yeboah and Julie of the Marshfield Clinic Oncology Department for their compassionate care throughout Jerry’s cancer journey.
Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his craftsmanship, and his kind heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
