Grace E. Knowles, age 93, of Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at the Marshfield North Shore Health Care Center.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield. Pastor Gary Holloway will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Grace was born on Dec. 2, 1931, the daughter of William and Agnes (Voelker) Schorer in the Marathon County Town of Hull. After graduating from Colby High School Class of 1950, she moved to Milwaukee and worked for Master Lock Corp for 40 years. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, William “Del” Knowles for 64 years.
After her retirement, they moved to Payson, Arizona, where she was President and active in the Birders Club, and hiked and picnicked in the Tonto Natl. Forest. She loved the majestic elk and the hummingbirds that would come into her yard. She wasn’t fond of the javelina that dug up her flowers. Grace was active in church and community activities and made many friends where she lived. Her life in Payson ended after 24 years when they moved back to Wisconsin to be near family in 2014.
Grace loved the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers when they were in Arizona. The Packers won the Super Bowl and a Wisconsin niece sent them each a Packers sweatshirt which they were proud to wear. Grace and Del loved to travel Canada, Switzerland, and throughout the U.S.
Grace was the last surviving child of a family of 10 – eight girls and two boys. Her husband, Del, passed away on May 6, 2016. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; and other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Verland “Butch” Schorer and William “Bill” Schorer; and her sisters, Alice Handke, Hilda Genett, Nellie Tlusty, Myrtle Buning, Virginia McNaul, Stella McCann, and Joyce Ohlinger.
The family would like to give a special Thank You to Pastor Gary Holloway for all his visits to Grace – his songs lifted her spirits and made her day for the 2 ½ years she was at the nursing home. Also, Thank You to North Shore Health Care Center and Compassus Hospice for the good care you gave Grace.
