Gwendolyn R. “Gwen” Prust, 88, Marshfield, passed away with family at her side on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at House of the Dove.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 pm until service time. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Rev. Heather Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield, at a later date.

Gwen was born on February 19, 1933 in Stratford, to George and Flossie (Salzwedel) Gerl Brown. She attended Marshfield schools. She married Raymond C. Prust on January 23, 1956 and they later divorced.

She was employed as a machine operator at Land ‘O Lakes until her retirement.

Gwen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother with a little spunk! She raised six children and was very proud of them all. When her children were young, she was always busy sewing dresses for the girls, shirts for the boys and painting with her Artex paint. When Gwen was going to be a grandma, her sewing machine was in full speed again making bibs, sleepers and towels. Gwen’s sister Darlene was going to be a grandmother also, so they would share this excitement of their first grandchild together sewing, sewing and sewing. Gwen was a fantastic cook. Nothing was small for a family of eight making fried chicken, homemade rootbeer, popcorn balls, cookies for their cold lunches and wonderful holiday meals that we all enjoyed and loved.

Mom would often talk about her driving experience when she would be behind the wheel and pull up next to a police officer and was only 15 years old. It was much to their surprise when she did turn 16 and get her license. Gwen loved to grab one of the kids bikes and ride around the block until she took a short cut and collided with Greg who was playing baseball in the back yard, breaking her leg. She loved having family pets, a bird Dicky, Siamese cat Susie, poodles Lisa and Brenda, and four Schnauzer’s throughout the years named Comanche, Comanche, Tasha and Shasta. She also loved watching and feeding her birds, rabbits and the neighbors dog getting the ball as it was thrown over their roof.

Sundays have become very special as “Great Grandma Day” when family would come and enjoy a good game of cards, laughs, sitting on her deck with children playing with squirt guns and a wonderful supper together.

She is survived by her children, Greg Prust, Debra (Verlyn) Rasmussen, Marilyn Smetak, and Dave Prust, all of Marshfield, and Gina (Jim) Bucki of Medford. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Tara, Tim, Travis, Tyler, Amber, Dawn, Jeremy, Jennifer, Heather, Justin, Katie and Pam and 21 great grandchildren, Emma, Hunter, Sawyer, Kira, Fiona, Draven, Paisley, Paxton, Trevor, Nolan, Jayce, Brooke, Landon, Corben, Tysen, Karter, Arianna, Brinley, Raylynn, Haven and Colton. She is further survived by a brother, Edward Lawrence (Marlene) Brown of Eau Claire.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jeffrey Prust, and sisters, Joyce Sommers and Darlene Remington.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at House of the Dove.
