Ivan J. Fuerlinger, age 87 passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 30th, surrounded by loved ones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, where a gathering for family and friends will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery columbarium, Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Ivan was born on March 31, 1935 to John and Delia (Patrie) Fuerlinger. He attended grade school at St. Andrew’s in Rozellville before graduating from Marshfield High School in 1953. Ivan enlisted in the Army in 1954 where he was stationed in Austria until he was honorably discharged in 1956. After which, Ivan began his 46 year career at Northern Auto which later became CarQuest. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Sharon L. Poppy, at a dance hall in Rozellville, WI. They married at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburndale, WI on June 20, 1964.
Ivan enjoyed golf, bowling and telling a good story. He was a 75-year Cubs fan as well as a devoted follower of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Ivan was a member of the “Hardees’ Boys” that met daily for coffee at Hardees to discuss sports, politics, and to solve world problems. In retirement, Ivan could be found at any sporting event that involved his grandchildren as well as a few dance recitals and plays. He preferred to be the first fan into the event and if he wasn’t, he considered himself late. He looked forward to his yearly trip with his son and, in later years, with his grandsons to Las Vegas. He took great pride in being the first to salute his newly commissioned grandson 2nd Lieutenant Boast in December, 2021.
He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, and the Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, their two children, Steve (Renee) Fuerlinger of Marshfield, WI and Sue (Saul) Boast of Germantown Hills, IL and four grandchildren: Carsten Boast, Tyler Fuerlinger, Mara Boast, and Bryce Fuerlinger. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Lurita Luepke; brothers-in-law John (Jeanne) Poppy and Bob Lingford; and sisters-in-law Sue Poppy and Pat Poppy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law John and Mabel Poppy, brothers-in-law Duke Poppy, Don Luepke, Don Klein, and David Poppy, and sisters-in-law Dolores Klein and Joan Lingford.
The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Yeboah and the staff at the Marshfield Medical Center Oncology department for their excellent care as well as the staff at Compassus for their kindness in providing at-home hospice care. Memorials to be designated at a later date.
