James Dana Alexander, 84, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022, in Marshfield, WI.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 12, 2022 Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where a visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time.
James “Jim” was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents Molly and A.J. Alexander. He was educated in New York City and received his B.A. from Brooklyn College. He earned his M.A. in English from the Notre Dame University, and later received a M.A. in linguistics and a Ph.D. in English, both from the University of Minnesota. Jim moved to Marshfield in 1964, where he began teaching at the newly built UW campus. He retired as emeritus professor of English after forty years of teaching.
Jim was a member of Our Lady of Peace parish where he served faithfully as an usher and was the scribe of Knights of Columbus for many years. In city affairs, Jim presided over the Marshfield Public Library Board of Trustees for two terms. He was a long-time member of MACCI and moderated numerous forums. Also, he was a member of the Marshfield Optimist Club, and later joined the Marshfield Kiwanis where he served as president of the group.
Jim enjoyed swimming, cross-country skiing, dancing, and attending theater and musical performances.
He is survived by his wife, Lonna (Drach) Alexander and stepdaughter Alanna Everett.
He is further survived by his stepsister, Susan Orr, of Latham, NY.
