James “Jimmy, Timber Jim, Jim” L. Hollar (84), of Wisconsin Rapids, joined our good Lord with so much love surrounding him with many friends, family, and loved ones, Saturday morning October 28. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday November 4, 2023, at St. Michael’s Church in Junction City with Father Packi officiating. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at St. Wenceslaus’ Cemetery, Milladore. Public visitation is from 4-7 p.m on Friday at Marten/Rembs Funeral Home, Junction City and at the church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service begins.

Jimmy was born January 6, 1939, in Rudolph, WI to Bartl and Margaret (nee Kusta) Hollar. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1957 and joined the U.S. Army, serving 3 years including time in West Germany.

After his honorable discharge Jimmy returned to Wisconsin and, with the help of his horse Jack, skidded his first pulpwood, beginning a long career as an independent pulp cutter and proprietor of Puff Creek Logging. Jimmy was a unique individual who made his own path through life, he had his own way of thinking, and was sure to bring a different perspective to most situations. He had an approachable personality, jovial demeanor and was always happy to take on a job, no matter how challenging, physically demanding or elementary. Jimmy enjoyed socializing, hunting and had a lifelong gravitation towards travel, always looking for a reason to visit different parts of the country, near and far. He made a point to visit the nearest VFW wherever he was. He and Karen spent many winters in Arizona, enjoying the hoopla of the Brewer’s spring training camp. Jimmy was an active member of Legion Post 468, Milladore Lions Club, Wilderness Sportsmen’s Club Wis. Rapids, and St Michael’s Catholic Church, Junction City.

Jimmy is survived by his soul mate of 40 years Karen Deranek and son Jerrel (Heather) Hollar.

He is further survived by siblings Robert (Sharon) of Stevens Point, Eugene (Diane) of Junction City, Lucy Hollar of Crandon, Thomas (Janet) of Sherry, Margaret (Mark) Lubecke of Nekoosa, William (Lynne) of Junction City, and Erma (Russ) Ponshock of Milladore, and sister in law Norita Hollar (John) of Milladore. Extended family Mitch (Meg) Deranek, grandchildren Katie (Chris), Krysta (Dustin), great grandchildren Gavin, Kylee, and Paityn, and countless other nieces and nephews.
