Obituary for James Scholzen

James H. Scholzen, age 71, passed away on Friday December 27, 2024, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Stephana Scholzen.

Private family committal services will be held at St. Joachim Cemetery, Pittsville, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 153 of Pittsville and the State of Wisconsin Honor Guard.

James was born on June 9, 1953, in Morningside, MD, to Harold and Elizabeth (Schlorb) Scholzen. He was a 1972 graduate of Pittsville High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the first all-volunteer platoon called Hodag. He moved to various locations, including Noble, LA where he met his wife Paula Funderburk and they were married on April 23, 2004. She died on February 13, 2023.

Jim loved fishing, hunting, and his dogs.

He is survived by his siblings, Robert (Sue) Scholzen of Keithville, LA, Harold (Judy) Scholzen of Glidden, Paul (Stephana) Scholzen of Vesper, Sandra (David) Olson of Pittsville, Bettyann (Douglas) Gorst of Pittsville, Jeffery (Agnes) Scholzen of Arpin, Gertrude Cahill of Chattanooga, TN, Ida Scholzen of Pittsville and Joseph (Linda) Scholzen of Arpin. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a niece, Sara Partain and great nephews, Morgan Gorst and Merlin Schooley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Wood County Humane Society.

The family wishes to thank St. Croix Hospice, including Kim, Rhonda, Britta, and all the others for their spectacular care.
