JoAnn D. Goes, 94, Marshfield, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Aster Assisted Living with family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Weighner officiating. There will be a visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield with a luncheon after at St. John’s. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
JoAnn was born on June 15, 1927, in Stratford, WI to Peter and Tressiea (Stueber) Grassl. She graduated from Stratford Senior High School in 1945.
She married Richard Goes in June of 1948 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford. To this marriage, her only children, identical twin daughters were born. JoAnn and Richard later divorced.
JoAnn was employed in various positions over the years including waitress, pharmacy tech and assistant to the principal at Stratford Elementary School. In retirement, one of her favorite activities was traveling to the casino with her sister to play the slot machines. She also loved to bake, especially Christmas cookies and banana bread, with the occasional cheesecake added to the mix when her grandchildren would ask for one. She loved watching her grandkids in all of their various sports and was often the chauffeur to their summer practices.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Jim) Banks and Karen (Glenn) Linzmeier, both of Marshfield. She is further survived by her four grandchildren, J.R. (Michelle) and Jordan (Kandy) Banks, Jason (Chelsea) Linzmeier and Jessica Johnson, as well as by 11 great-grandchildren: James and Nora Banks; Brynn, Lauryn and Ashlyn Banks; Hailey, Hannah and Brianna Linzmeier; and Adalyn, Alivia and Emilia Johnson. Her younger sister, Mae Schroepfer of Stratford, also survives.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and her older brothers and sisters: Grant Grassl, Lylas Chrouser, Rose Grassl, Raymond Grassl, Marcella Galow, Harold Grassl and Peter Grassl. She also has a great-granddaughter awaiting her in Heaven, Elliana Johnson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Aster Assisted Living, where JoAnn had been a resident for the past 2 ½ years, as well as the staff of Heartland Hospice for the care provided to her in her final days. Your compassion is truly appreciated.
