John M. Brickner, 83, Auburndale, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, October 17, 2022 at House of the Dove, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 8:30 am until service time. Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 6352 at the church following the service. Burial will be in Mountain Cemetery, Town of Mountain, Oconto County, Wisconsin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Brickner, Noah Brickner, Ty Brickner, Brett Brickner, Corey Brickner, Josh Brickner and John Yakel. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
John was born on July 20, 1939 in Oconto County, to Marcellus and Evelyn (DeCleene) Brickner. He attended elementary school in Suring and was a 1957 graduate of Pulaski High School. After his education he served his country with the United States Navy until his honorable discharge. He married Norma Terry on May 9, 1959. She died on March 11, 1988. He later married Janet M. Wicke Schreiner on November 5, 1988.
As a young man, John began working as a mason in Milwaukee. He and Norma then moved to Mountain, Wisconsin where he owned and operated Brickner Excavation. He also owned and operated the bus service for the Suring school and later became the manager for Lamers Bus Service and continued his excavation business until retirement. John and Janet owned and operated a retail store and snowmobile and ATV sales. They retired in 1999 and moved to Tomahawk. In September 2003 they built their home in Auburndale, residing there until the present time. They spent 20 years wintering in Mesa, AZ from November until April.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and restoring vehicles.
He is survived by his wife, Janet and children, Kathleen Winkler (Dayn), Terry Brickner (Penny), Richard Brickner (Wendy), Jeff Schreiner (Tam), Dan Schreiner (Laura) Jim Schreiner (Donna), David Schreiner (Liz), John Schreiner (Vicky), and Debbie Kundinger (Randy). He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren by February 2023. He is further survived by siblings, Steve Brickner (Ellen), Sister Sally Brickner, Pat Sanders (Marcus), Mark Brickner (Judy) and Larry Brickner (Gail) and in-laws, Mary McKeffry, Margaret and David Schuh, Shirley and Julius Kaczmorowski, Lois and Joseph Burdeau, Nicky and Allen Baranczyk, Joe and Pam Terry, Theresa and Mike Gwidt, Trisha and Brian Wyckoff, Colleen and David Marcks.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marcellus and Evelyn Brickner, siblings, Barbara Czech, Mary Brickner, Michael Brickner, a niece Amy Brickner and brother-in-law Jerry McKeefry.
