John “Johnnie” Uelmen, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at House of the Dove in Marshfield, WI. He was born on August 1, 1949 to John & Dora Uelmen of Eden, WI.

He graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1967.

Whether it be on 2, 4, or 18 wheels, Johnnie had a soul for the open road. With such a passion for adventure, it was no surprise that he became an Over the Road Truck Driver.

Between the 18 Wheeler & his Harley Davidson motorcycle he was able to see some of the most beautiful places in the U.S. with Colorado quickly becoming one of his favorites.

He called Colorado home for many years. Taylor Canyon became his all-time favorite spot. He requested that some of his ashes be spread at Taylor Canyon which the family will do in the near future.

Johnnie had a passion for life. He would always greet family & friends with open arms and a warm hug. There was always a story to be told of one of his great adventures or parties that he may have attended.

You never left the conversation without a good laugh & a smile on your face. He always made life fun & interesting.

On December 21, 2001 he married Debra “Deb” Ebert. When he was not on the “Open Road” they enjoyed riding on the Harley, camping with family & friends & fishing. They also enjoyed taking his treasured 1969 Chevy Pickup & 1978 Chevy El Camino to car shows.

Upon retiring from TTI Trucking Co. John & Deb retired to Hancock, WI in Adams County. There they remodeled their little “Piece of Heaven on Earth” where they intended to spend their Golden Years until God decided to call him home.

John is survived by his wife Deb, son John T. “Travis” Uelmen, daughter Heather (Scott) Keller, stepchildren Christina (Ryan) Plummer, Stacey (Tom) Leach, Ashley Thoreson (special friend Mikel Liebelt) and Russell “Rusty” (Danielle) Ebert, sister Betty Young, brother Jeff (Maryann) Uelmen, brothers in law Christ (Dawn) Groh, Terry (Barb) Groh, Edward “Sparky” (Cathy) Groh, sister in law Kelly Groh Schmitz, 14 grandchildren, nieces & nephews and his precious Furbabies Diesel & Chelsea.

Preceding him in death were his parents John & Dora Uelmen, infant brother Joseph Uelmen, infant daughter Tanya Uelmen, sister Vikki Abler, his father & mother in law Edward & Betty Groh, brother in laws Steve Abler, Johnny Young, Steven Groh, Mark Groh, Scott Groh & sister in law Traci Reseburg.

In a true sign of Johnnie’s love for life there will not be a funeral service. He would rather be remembered with a “Celebration of Life”. Come & celebrate him & share your stories and memories you made with him over the years. Celebration of life will be at Marytown Tap (Marytown) W904 Kiel Rd. New Holstein, Wion at a later date.
