John F. Steckel, 56, Marshfield, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, where a gathering for family and friends will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
John was born on September 23, 1967, in Marshfield, the son of Frank “Jake” and Antoinette “Toni” (Martini) Steckel. He was a 1986 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and then graduated from North Central Technical College, Wausau. He later obtained a degree in Business Administration from Mount Scenario College.
John was very much in tune with nature. He was a hunter, trapper, and fisherman extraordinaire. He loved the outdoors and was a grower of trees, including apple, pear, and pine as well as others. He enjoyed playing basketball and following sports. He was a hard worker and would help anyone in need.
He is survived by his partner, Randy Machtan and siblings, Sue Anne TeStrake, Sandie (Frank) Mueller, Joseph (Janet) Steckel, Christine (Jesse) Sandoval, Mary Catherine Steckel, Donna (Scott) Radlinger and Liz (Tom) Rickman and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by Randy’s parents and sister, Marian and Gary Machtan and Kathy (Jack) Harris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Willard TeStrake, a nephew, Jason TeStrake and Judy Machtan.
