John R. Wenzel, age 91, Marshfield, passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife Donna at his side, on Monday, August 12, 2024.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Daniel Thelen, Rev. Barry Saylor, and Rev. Arturo Vigueras will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be in Veterans Field of Honor in Hillside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Handrick, Patrick Handrick, Gene Donnerbauer, Dustin Walz, Eric Johnson, and Bill Eggebrecht. Military rites will be conducted at the church following the service by the American Legion Post 54 and “Taps” will be played by Joel Ferkovich. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 9:00 am on Friday at the church.
John was born on August 10,1933 in Marshfield, to Rudolph and Theresa (Kaholka) Wenzel. He married Sandra M. Loken on June 27, 1957, at St. John’s Catholic Church. She died on August 7, 2017. He later married Donna M. (Genett) Goes on May 21, 2022.
John was a 1951 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He was employed at Lauby Cycle, later Craft’s Trading Center, Marshfield until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sayner, The Knights of Columbus, John Eisen Council #1799, the Marshfield Elks Club, and the American Legion Post 54. He enjoyed deer hunting and life in the Northwoods, after retiring. In his early days he enjoyed bowling and playing softball for DeJarlais’ Bar. He loved his church and God.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, and his children, Kris (Tim) Herr, David (Debbie) Wenzel, John P. (Sue) Wenzel, and a daughter-in-law, Julie Wenzel, all of Marshfield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jenny Johnson, Teresa Walz, April Hopkins, John Wenzel, Jordon Wenzel, Jim Wenzel, Jeremy Wenzel, and Nathan Wenzel, three bonus grandchildren, Amanda Byers, Nicole King, and Jenny Holt, and nine great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Frederick “Fritz” Wenzel of Madison and a sister, Mary Watson of Roswell, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Sandra, a son Mark Wenzel, sisters, Ruth Wenzel, Margaret “Marge” Eggebrecht, and a brother Richard Wenzel.
