LaVern T. Landwehr, 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at his home in the Town of Eau Pleine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, March Rapids with Rev. Philip Wilde officiating and Ellen Syring playing organ. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with his grandsons, Chad, Jacob, Travis, Justin and Adam Landwehr and Derek Stroetz serving as pallbearers and great-grandson, Branden Lavern Sischo serving as an honorary pallbearer. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 of Stratford. A visitation will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 2 and from 10:00 am until service time, both at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
LaVern was born on October 10, 1934 to Martin and Minnie (Schallock) Landwehr. He went to school until the 8th grade and then began his career working on the farms in the area for one dollar a day. He went into the Army in February 14, 1957 and was honorably discharged on February 10, 1959.
When he came home, he married the love of his life, Janet Winter, on May 30, 1959, and they had 4 children, Dale (Sonia) Landwehr, Mark (Susan) Landwehr, Carolyn (Dan) Stroetz, and Allen (Deanna) Landwehr. He bought a farm and did side work as a mechanic in his 2-car garage, which turned into many years of mechanic work and the start of Landwehr Repair Shop, Inc. with his family by his side. He traveled to all 50 states and different parts of the world with Janet. He also loved to go hunting, fishing, playing darts, and doing many jigsaw puzzles (the largest was 5000 pieces). He also enjoyed going elk hunting out west.
His family spread into 10 grandchildren, Tiffany (Quenton) Draeger, Travis (Kari) Landwehr, Chad Landwehr, Jacob (Caiti) Landwehr, Justin (Jamie) Landwehr, Tracy (Rick) Sischo, Sheena Brunzo, Derek (Karisa) Stroetz, Jill Landwehr, Adam (Ashley) Landwehr and 12 great-grandaughters, Olivia, Maddie, Kenzie Draeger, Kinleigh, Sawyer Landwehr, Brier Landwehr, Kaylee Sischo, Trinity, Destiny Brunzo, Skye, Daisy Posphalla, Uma Landwehr, Oliver and Riley Pinkert, one great grandson, Branden Sischo, and 3 more great grandchildren on the way.
Janet passed away on November 24, 2009 and LaVern married the second love of his life, Ellen Remus, on October 2, 2010. She helped LaVern with puzzles, gardening, and took care of him with many clinic and hospital visits. They enjoyed going on many trips as well and dancing to polka music.
LaVern is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Marie) Landwehr, Eugene Landwehr, Willy (Ione) Landwehr, Donald (June) Landwehr, one sister, Shirley (Ernie) Johnson, sisters-in-law, Elnora Landwehr, Betty Landwehr, Edna Landwehr, Joyce (Ron) Woodkey, Marian (Clarence) Pannier, and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by Ellen’s children, Art (Shelly) Remus, Sue (Joe) Bargender, Scott Remus, and her grandchild, Amy Yessa.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Janet, brothers, Raymond, Gordon, Allan, Ivan, sister, Bernice Boucher, sisters-in-law, Jan Landwehr, Evelyn Bores, Joan Winter, brothers-in-law, Edward Boucher, Robert Bores Sr., Rev. Edward Winter, nephew, Kenneth Boucher, Bobby Bores, niece, Cheryl Pannier, and great niece, Kayla Bores.
Memorials may be designated in LaVern’s name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund.
