LaVerne A. Neve, 99, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Stoney River Living, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield, with a Knights of Columbus rosary service at 9:30 am followed by visitation until the time of service. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery where military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 54 – Marshfield and Taps offered by great-niece, Ensign Natashia Neve, USN. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
LaVerne was born on April 15, 1926 in Magnolia, Wisconsin to Frank and Inga (Nelson) Neve. Having grown up the first of 7 children on the family dairy farm in Cary township, he graduated from Pittsville High School in 1944 and joined the Army immediately thereafter. While serving in the United States Army, he met the love of his life, Christine Habier, and they were united in marriage on January 8, 1949 in Pittsville. She passed away on March 18, 2008.
LaVerne was a devoted family man, proud veteran, and lifelong public servant. His legacy is one of unwavering patriotism, community involvement, and deep love for his family.
He served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1944 to 1970, including service during World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to service by joining the Marshfield Police Department in 1972, where he worked until his retirement in 1988.
Even after retiring, LaVerne remained active in his community. He taught “55 Alive” and motorcycle safety classes in both Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids, allowing many Central Wisconsin residents to enjoy the open roads.
He was a proud and active member of several organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Knights of Columbus, and the Republican Committee of Wood County. He took great joy in his regular conversations with friends at Coffee 1 and Coffee 2.
He is survived by his son, Ronald (Leslie Sparks) Neve of Portland, OR; daughters, Linda Majors of Fountain Inn, SC, and Susanna Ramey of Marshfield; grandchildren, Erin Aigner, Emily Neve, Alexander Huellmantel, and Tucker Huellmantel, and several great grandchildren.
He is further survived by his brothers, Edward (Arlene) Neve, and Larry Neve; sister, Caroline Ballerstein, and sister in law, Marlene Neve; additionally, his dear friend, MaryAnn Burr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Inga; wife, Christine; brothers, Leland “Swede” (Connie) Neve, Frank Jr. (Judy) Neve, and Donald Neve; sister in law, Joene Neve, and brother in law, Herman Ballerstein.
