Lonnie G. Peterson, 74, Phillips, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. Pastor Mark Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield.

Lonnie was born on February 18, 1948 in Marshfield, to Lawrence and Olive (Meissner) Peterson and was a 1966 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. He then attended Mid-State Technical College, Wisconsin Rapids. He married Paulette A. Kuehnhold on January 23, 1971 at the First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield.

Lonnie and Paulette met in Spring 1970 while motorcycling with friends.  This led to a 51 year marriage that was filled with love and happiness.  Lonnie loved drag racing and even had his own race car for a short period of time.  Lonnie and Paulette enjoyed traveling to National NHRA Drag Racing events.

Lonnie started his over the road truck driving career in 1972, leasing his truck to Schanno Transportation out of St. Paul, MN.  He worked with Schanno for 25 years before transitioning to Hirschbach and eventually WEL Transportation out of DePere, WI.  Over the span of his career, he totaled over 7 million accident free miles.  These miles included stops all over the continental US, hauling loads of various goods.  Paulette often traveled with Lonnie on his trips – even obtaining her own CDL.  This partnership began the adventure of Little Bear and Love Bug.

Lonnie was also an avid Green Bay Packer and Duke Basketball fan.  He spent many Sundays watching NHRA Drag Racing and enjoying a Bacardi Diet Coke.  His loves included taking a day trip to the local Casino, spending time with his family and holding his lil’ boy blue, Bobbi Jo.  He was the Captain of the pontoon and enjoyed being on the lake.  Lonnie started many shenanigans with family and friends with a shot of Old Crow.

Lonnie was often referred to as “The Living Legend”.  He continues on his legacy through the many fond memories shared with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette and their children, Tammy (Scott) Kundinger of Verona, William (Lisa) Peterson and Mary Peterson, all of Marshfield, and four grandchildren, Bailey, Ashley, Bryson Kundinger and Brady Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

The family wishes to thank the staff at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL for their kind care.

Memorials may be designated in Lonnie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
