Obituary for Margaret Grassl

Margaret M. Grassl, age 96, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at House of the Dove, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 16, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Arturo Vigueras will officiate. Burial will be in St. Kilian’s Cemetery, Blenker. Serving as pallbearers will be Margaret’s grandchildren and Danny Esser will serve as honorary pallbearer. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Margaret was born on May 3, 1927, at home in the Town of Marshfield, to Joseph and Anna (Grall) Kohlbeck. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Hewitt. She was united in marriage to Edward M. Grassl on September 18, 1945, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hewitt and they celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries in 1996 and 2006. He died on January 15, 2009.

Margaret was a dedicated farmwife and mother and a devout Catholic. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She had a green thumb, enjoyed her plants and flower garden and polka music. She especially loved her grandchildren and will be remembered for her special phrases – “Grandma-isms.”

She is survived by her children, Alfred Grassl, of Marshfield, and Davie (Sherry) Grassl, of Milladore, Donna Grassl of Marshfield and Theresa (Danny) Esser of Lindsey. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Grassl, Allen (Laura) Grassl, Chris Grassl, Angela (Andy) VanAsten, Cody (Victoria) Esser and Coltin (Kathryn) Esser and 10 great grandchildren, Morgan, Mason and Carter Grassl, Jedd and Jordan Grassl, Peyton Grassl, Taylor, Wyatt and Levi VanAsten and Austin Esser.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons, Charles “Carl” and Bernard Grassl, a brother, Richard (Elsie) Kohlbeck, and sisters, Helen (Lawrence) Strupp, Martha (Joseph) Steckler and Marie (Alfred) Wenzel.

The family wishes to thank the nurses of 8 North, the staff of Palliative care and House of the Dove for their loving care and suggest that those wishing to give a memorial may designate it to them.
