Obituary for Mary Belle Reckner

Mary Belle Reckner, age 82, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 17, 2018 at House of The Dove in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Spencer United Methodist Church in Spencer with Pastor Hyeok Won-Kwon officiating. Mary Belle will be laid to rest in West Spencer Cemetery in the Township of Sherman. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday at the church in Spencer from 9 AM until time of services. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Charles Jicinsky, Kenneth Jicinsky, Chris Dennis, DuWayne Shelby, Scott Johnson and Don Robehl.

Mary Belle was born August 4, 1936 at home in the Town of Hull, Marathon County, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Beaver) Smart. She attended a one room country school known as Lone Pine School later transferring and graduating from Colby High School. She was united in marriage to Merton E. Reckner on February 4, 1957 in Colby Methodist Church. He survives. Mary Belle was employed at Figi’s in Marshfield for over 17 years. She also donated countless hours of her time and talents volunteering whenever and wherever she was needed. Mary Belle also acted as den mother for the local boys Cub Scout Troop.

She was a longtime member of Spencer United Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid Group as well as a member of the Clark County Homemakers.

Mary Belle loved tending to her garden and flower beds around her home. She also enjoyed going square dancing and polka dancing with her dance partner Merton and enjoyed making her own colorful square dance outfits. Another favorite pastime was traveling, whether it was a day trip or a Progressive Travel Bus Trip, attending dinner theater performances, camping at various state parks and even their wonderful trip to Israel. She loved it all.

Survivors include husband Merton of Spencer; her children: Douglas (Holly) Reckner of Stratford, Dale (Sandy) Reckner of Spencer, Janese (Chris) Dennis of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a brother Grant Smart of Wausau along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a twin sister Jane Adel in infancy, a sister-in-law Eileen Smart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary Belle’s name are being accepted to Spencer United Methodist Church.
