Mary Ann Meyer, age 84, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point, with her devoted family at her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Milladore, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Father Packi will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be in the parish cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Martens/Rembs Funeral Home, Junction City is assisting the family.
Mary Ann was born on December 3, 1939, in Wisconsin Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Martha (Schuerman) Schmutzer. She was a 1958 graduate of Auburndale High School. After her education she was employed at Preway Company in Wisconsin Rapids. She was united in marriage to Eugene C. Meyer on August 25, 1962, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Milladore. He died on May 2, 2006.
After their marriage, Mary Ann and Eugene farmed and raised eight children in the Town of Eau Pleine, Portage County, until their retirement in 2000. She also did custodial work at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member and was active in St. Ann’s Altar Society.
Mary Ann always put everyone else before herself and taught her children a strong work ethic. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and you could always count on a chicken dinner on Sundays after church. She was lovingly known as “Grandma Cookie” by her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Betty (Kenny) Rozek of Custer, Thomas (Gail) Meyer of Auburndale, Barbara (Colin) Hintz of Auburn, MI, Jacquelyn Zygarlicke of Stevens Point, Susan (Nick) Cappotto of Plover, Karen (Patrick) Nikolay, Jr. of Auburndale, David (Leann) Meyer of Junction City, and Jodi (Roger) Ertl of Auburndale. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother Phillip (Eileen) Schmutzer and a sister, Nancy Brandl, all of Milladore, and sisters-in-law, Claudette, Diane, Lorraine, and Sharon Schmutzer and brother-in-law, Ted Feenstra and sister-in-law, Judy Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, Vicky Almquist Rude, brothers, Robert, Richard, David, John “Jack”, and James Schmutzer, her parents-in-law, Roy and Caroline Meyer, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Raymond Brandl, Beverly and Marvin Huser, Karen Feenstra, and Doug Meyer.
