Nellie “Nell” Mae Schwantes, 86, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Marshfield Medical Center.

Nell was born on March 30, 1938 to Raymond and Frances (Montgomery) Parrett.  She graduated from Stratford High School in 1956 and attended nursing school in Chicago, Illinois.  Nell was united in marriage to Dale Schwantes on March 2, 1959 in Decorah, Iowa.

The couple lived in Sheboygan, Marshfield, Cornell and Black River Falls, Wisconsin as well as Marshall, Minnesota. Upon Dale’s passing in 2015, Nell returned to Marshfield.

Nell and Dale shared over 56 years of marriage and were blessed with 5 children: Rick, Scott, Clark, Mary and Terry.

Nell worked in accounts payable for Schwan’s Sales Enterprises in Marshall, Minnesota for 30 years until her retirement.  She loved her family and cherished time spent with them. She was a devout Minnesota Vikings fan. In her retirement years Nell thoroughly enjoyed her bus trips and outings with her dear friends. She was so thankful for all the traveling she did with her family to see different areas of the United States she dreamed of visiting. Nell was a great conversationalist.  She will always be remembered by friends and family for being a “prim and proper lady” and for her Electrolux vacuuming and cleaning skills.

Nell is survived by her children: Rick (and Kathy) Schwantes of Willmar, Minnesota (grandchildren Cory and Amanda); daughter-in-law Sharon Schwantes of Hutchinson, Minnesota (grandchildren Tyler and Traci); Clark Schwantes of Hutchinson, Minnesota (grandchildren Amy and Mallory); Mary (and Robert) Claeys of La Quinta, California (grandchildren Jordan, Afton and Lane); and Terry Schwantes of Waite Park, Minnesota as well as nine great grandchildren.

Nell was proceeded in death by her husband Dale; mother Frances Parrett; son Scott Schwantes; and five siblings: Raymond Parrett, Shirley Spindler, James Parrett, Susie Farquar, and Mary Parrett.

Nell will be dearly missed.  Her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of her family and many dear friends.  A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 17, 2025 in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
