Norman “Norm” H. Wittman

Norman “Norm” H. Wittman, 81, Marshfield, was received into heaven on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He passed quietly surrounded by his loving family.

Norm was born on October 26, 1941 in Marshfield, to Anna (Geiger) and Anton Wittman. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Columbus High School, graduating in 1957. After high school he joined the National Guard and served for 2 years. He married Sharon Shidell on June 5, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon, Wisconsin. He went to school at Mid-State Technical College, earning his associate’s degree. He worked as a mechanic, and in construction, before joining Felker Brothers in maintenance. He continued to take electronics classes during his career, before retiring in 2005. Norm was very inventive and used his engineering background to problem solve more efficient ways to accomplish tasks at work and at home. While he was at Felker Brothers, his innovative designs led to patents and long-term improved efficiency, and he also submitted plans and projects to Popular Mechanics magazine. Norm was very skilled and built a collapsible catamaran, go-kart, and he even built the home that he lived in with his wife and children. Norm loved camping, sailing with his wife, children, and grandson, and spending time in Florida, where he and Sharon were able to spend their winters when they retired. He and Sharon loved attending their children and grandchildren’s sports and school activities. He was constantly at his wife’s side during her two-year battle with pancreatic cancer and was her steadfast soulmate in the years since she passed. He continued to trust God in those difficult days, and to attend church regularly as a member of the congregation of St. John the Baptist.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lori (Chuck) Kolar, Amy (Tim) Parker, Dan (Noreen) Wittman, and Katie (Chris) Connor; grandchildren, Joshua Kolar, Tyler (Sonia) Parker, Krista Kolar, Bailey Parker, and Blake Wittman; great-grandchild Lorelai Parker; his siblings Flavia Wittman, Linus (Bonnie) Wittman, Thomas (Cinda) Wittman. Norm was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers Jerome Wittman, Lawrence Wittman, and Gregory Wittman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 28th at 1:30 pm at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield.

Burial will take place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27th from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and 12:30 pm until the time of the service at St. John’s Catholic Church on Friday.

The family would like to express special thanks for the wonderful care provided by the staff in the MICU at Marshfield Medical Center.
