Peggy Jo Smith, 80, passed away on October 18, 2024, at the Clark County Rehabilitation Center. Peggy was born September 20, 1944, in Schofield, WI, to Charles and Lenore (Powell) Clemens. She graduated from Stratford High School before joining the US Navy. She served at US Naval Air Station Corpus Christi from 1962-1965, when her son David was born. She took great joy in being a mother, grandmother, dutiful daughter, and friend.

Peggy returned to the Stratford area shortly after the birth of her son, David, and began working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI. She maintained a close group of friends and worked in Accounts Payable until her retirement.

The Children’s Miracle Network was near and dear to her heart. She spent many summers organizing and running the CMN carnival on the hospital grounds during the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. She was an avid volunteer for this organization and an active member of several historical societies in the area.

She was an enthusiastic reader who was particularly fond of mystery and Western novels and spent many weekends crafting with her grandchildren. She was endlessly proud of her grandchildren and loved them so fully. She also took on a grandmotherly role to several other children and loved them as unconditionally as her biological grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, David; her parents; her brothers, James and Richard; and sister, Patricia. She is survived by her brother, Robert Clemens of Warwick, NY; grandson, Zachary Nall, Spencer; granddaughter, Meghan (Josh) Wieber of Austin, MN; and great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Kel Wieber. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews from coast to coast; the mother of her grandchildren, Pam Smith of Marshfield; her daughter-in-law, Chris Clemens of Rib Lake; and her special friend, Penny Miller.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield, WI, with visitation from 9:30-11, and services beginning at 11. Refreshments will be provided by the family. She will be missed very much, but the knowledge that she is at peace will ease the grief of our loss. In lieu of flowers, please honor Peggy with a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network.
