Peter Borens

Peter “Pete” Borens of Marshfield passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023 at Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old. Pete was born on November 5,1944 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, to Raymond and Adeline (Schubert) Borens. He met the love of his life, Kathleen Sullivan, and they wed on June 25,1966 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They were looking forward to celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary later this month.

Pete graduated from Columbus High School in 1962. He graduated from Histology school in 1969, and went on to work for the Marshfield Clinic Laboratory for 42 years in various positions. Pete loved his family and friends with all his heart. He was most happy when surrounded by his wife, children, grandkids and great-grandkids. They were the joy of his life. Pete and Katie did not let grass grow under their tires as they traveled weekly to football, baseball, recitals, plays, concerts, basketball, softball, soccer, and volleyball games to cheer on their grandkids.

Friends and family loved him for his gentle smile, silliness, quick wit and humor. He had a joke and a piece of hard candy for everyone he met. Pete loved cooking and grilling and often said “if you leave this house hungry, it’s your own damn fault.” Music filled his life, from spending hours recording albums to 8-tracks, to creating hundreds of playlists on Spotify. He enjoyed singing and it was such a treat when he sang at special gatherings.

In retirement, you could often see him riding his bike and walking around the Wildwood Zoo. He shared his love of Wildwood Park with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Pete and Katie also traveled and vacationed throughout the US and Europe. They shared their love of travel with their family, most recently exploring Ireland with their three children and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family in Mexico.

Pete is lovingly survived by his wife, Katie, his children Paul (Linda) of Delafield and his son, Zach (Payton) and great-grandson, Braelon; Kari (Tom) Lazers of Pearson and their children, Emily (Landin), great-grandchildren Hazel and Blaze, Jack and Max; Greg (Joan) and their children, Molly, Henry and Violet; his sister Nancy (Bill) Cubbage and in-laws, Louise Borens, Wayne Wenzel, and Jim Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Katie’s parents, Russell and Dora Sullivan, brother John and sisters, Gerrie Wenzel and Trudi Schultz.

Special thanks to the amazing team of nurses and doctors at the Marshfield Medical Center, especially Martin.

A celebration will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 16 at Rembs Celebration Center in Marshfield with lunch to follow.
