Rachel Lee Hergert died on July 21, 2019 at the House of The Dove in Marshfield, WI. At the time of her death her husband of 65 years was at her side. At Rachel’s request her funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Visitation will be held 10am until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Rachel was born in Otis, Kansas in 1932. Her parents’ names were George and Leah Brack, now deceased. There were 4 children in the family: Darline, the oldest is living in Oklahoma City, an older sister: Fern, and a younger brother: George Jr, are both deceased.
On June 6, 1954 Rachel married Merril Hergert at a Lutheran church located in Otis, Kansas where both graduated from High School in 1950. Neither recalled when they first became known to each other since both families lived in the same small community their entire lives. As her husband I have first-hand knowledge about her lifestyle. During Rachel’s marriage she enjoyed interacting and being around people; this involved employment, PEO, church, volunteering, playing bridge, etc. Her last employment was with The School District of Marshfield. After 30 years of having a wide variety of secretarial responsibilities she was retired in 1999.
After retirement Rachel and her husband spent some years in Arizona during the winter months, but for the most part have enjoyed retirement in and around their home where they had lived since 1990 and had the daily opportunity to observe all the wildlife which surrounded them.
Survivors in Rachel’s family include her husband: Merril; 2 sons: Wade, age 61 living in Woodbridge VA., Brian, age 57 who lives in Hewitt WI, and daughter: Lisa who lives in Marshfield WI. Collectively there are 7 grandchildren who individually have had the opportunity to enough time with Grandma to know how much Grandma loved them.
In conclusion I want everyone to know there are no exceptions of a monetary memorial gift. People, however, have a right to their own ideas. If you feel strongly about doing so it will go to The House of the Dove here in Marshfield.
Once again my thanks go out to the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home for their support and guidance during this difficult time.
