Richard J. “Dick” Altmann, 87, Stratford, passed away with family at his side on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at House of the Dove, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 2, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford, with Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam officiating. The service will be live-streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Thursday at Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford, and from 9:30 am until service time on Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Dick was born at home in Stratford, the fourth child of William and Ida (Dennee) Altmann on September 8, 1933, which was his parents 10th wedding anniversary. He attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Stratford and was a 1951 graduate of Stratford High School. On April 28, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Adamski at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford, and they were married more than 67 years. In September of 1955, Dick was drafted into the United States Army and served two years until his honorable discharge.

Dick worked more than 20 years behind the counter of the Stratford Farmers Co-op and then was a licensed Real Estate Salesman. He joined the Marshfield Clinic in the Lab Outreach program for 26 years, working until age 79. He was a member of the Stratford Water and Light Commission for more than 17 years and also served on the Board of Appeals.

Dick and Dorothy loved old time music, and both were good dancers. Romy Gosz was the band for their wedding dance and until old age slowed them down, they attended many dances. Dick enjoyed hunting and at age 80 got a big buck. He enjoyed ice fishing with his friends, dancing, playing sheepshead, schmere, and farkle. He never missed watching Moli B on Saturday night.

Dick and Dorothy are the parents of Jerry Altmann and Judy (Dave) Moen and grandparents of Jason and Jeffrey Zuelke. Sadly, Jeffrey passed away at the age of four. Another grandson is Nathan Altman, Jerry’s son and five great-grandchildren, Kelan and Jeffery Zuelke and Gavin, Leah, and Jack Altman. He is also survived by two brothers, Donald (Kay) Altmann of Wisconsin Rapids and James (Dixie) Altmann of Delaware, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jeffrey Zuelke, three sisters, Elaine Spence, June Lange, and Adeline Drexler, and a brother, Robert Altmann.

A special thanks to all the nurses and aides at Ascension Hospice. They were all super.

A memorial will be designated at a later date.
