Richard Tierney died peacefully at home on June 22, 2023, under hospice care.
Richard was born Nov 19, 1954, in Boston, MA. He graduated from Harvard University in 1976, where he was an editor of the Harvard Lampoon for three years. He went to work for WSBK TV in Boston, producing and directing the Boston Bruins telecast from 1977 to 1979.
In 1983, he enrolled at Yale University School of Medicine, where he met his future wife, Marian Greenburg. They graduated in 1987. Richard completed his anesthesia residency at Tufts University Medical Center in Boston and remained on the faculty there, doing cardiac and vascular anesthesia, until 1998.
Richard, Marian and their two daughters then moved to Bangor, Maine, where he was the director of cardiac anesthesia at Eastern Maine Medical Center. The family moved to Marshfield, WI, in 2004, where Richard worked at the Marshfield Clinic until his retirement in 2014.
Richard is survived by his wife, Marian Greenburg; daughters Charlotte (Laurel Wasser) of Bellflower, CA, and Olivia (Brandon Nikolai) of Madison, WI; brother Philip (Marilyn) of Brookline, MA, and six nieces and nephews. Per his wishes, there will be no memorial service.
