Obituary for Roger T. Hartl

Roger T. Hartl, 83, Auburndale, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at House of the Dove, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale, with Rev. Antony Arokiyam officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at Rembs Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A parish rosary service will be held at 7:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Roger was born on April 24, 1935 in Marshfield, to Leonard and Catherine (Hamus) Hartl. He served in the National Guard from 1953 until 1959. He married Clara Ann Reigel on October 2, 1956 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bakerville.

As a young man, Roger was a licensed cheese maker and worked at Auburndale Cheese Factory for 5 years. He then owned and operated Hartl Distributing for 5 years and then established Badger Motors with his brother in 1962 where he worked until his retirement in 1998.

Roger enjoyed bowling and golf. He bowled 7 – 300 games, 4 – 800 series and was inducted into the Marshfield Bowlers Hall of Fame. He loved watching all sports as well as playing cards and shooting pool. He played trumpet and saxophone for 45 years with various bands including Ruby Grassl, The Spielers and The Firemen Five.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara, and their 6 daughters, Kim (Gerard) Fuehrer, Karen (Brian) Lang, Karleen (Greg) Weinfurter, Linda (Geno) Brueggen, Pam Hartl, and Peggy (Jon) Empey, all of Auburndale. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, Tammy (Clint) Otto and their children, Coralyn and Aurelia; Tara (Brad) Grube and their children, Liliana, Jaxon, Madison and Molli; Rick (Chelsea) Fuehrer and their son Vincent; Kelly (Ryan) Kumm and their children, Julia, Leila and Ella; Leah (Victor) Hernandez and their children, Natalia and Adriana; Stacie and Dillon Lang, Kristen (Jason) Peirce and their children, Charlotte, Nolan, Griffin and Violet; Mindy (Bryan) Plaszcz and their children, Oliver and Teddy; Kayla (Jonny) Schultz and their children, Franklin, Charlie and Evelyn; Stephanie (Phil) VandeWettering and their daughter, Cecelia; Allison (Scott) Hoelzel and their children, Scarlett and Violet; and Carver, Parker and Keegan Empey. He is further survived by a brother, Raymond (Joanne) Hartl of Wisconsin Rapids and a sister, Jeanette (Fritz) Berger of Auburndale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Nathaniel Empey.

The family will designate a memorial at a later date.
