Russell J. Zieher, 91, Arpin, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, at Stoney River Assisted Living, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Social distancing is encouraged and wearing masks will be required. The service will be live-streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes.  Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Burial will be in St. Joachim Cemetery, Pittsville, at a later date.

Russell was born on December 29, 1929, in Arpin, to Herman and Catherine (Dupee) Zieher. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He married Phyllis L. Rasmussen on July 14, 1951, at St. James Catholic Church, Vesper. She died on June 30, 2007.

Russ had been a Deputy Sheriff for the Wood County Sheriff’s Department from 1957 until 1981. During that time, he also owned and operated Hamel Baton Company. He then became an agent for Seneca Sigel Mutual Insurance Company. He also operated Zieher’s Sport Shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to northern Wisconsin with his family for many years.

He is survived by his children, Diane (Ted) Johnson, Sandy (Butch) Seifert, Pam Schill, and Bruce (Nancy) Zieher. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Casey (Analisa) Johnson, Andrea (Ryan) McGaver, Amanda (Jason) Welch, Brienne (Clint) Geissler, Megan Seifert, Jesse (Kelly) Schill, Corey (Leah) Schill, Bradley Zieher, and Brittany Zieher (Nate Brost) and 17 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Gerianne Zieher and Frances Rasmussen, many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Jeanette Engelbright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandchild, Kelly Johnson, a sister, Virginia in infancy, and a brother Robert.
