Shirley Alice lverson, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 3, 2024. She was born on November 21, 1931 in Gary, Indiana, the oldest child of John and Helen (Charles) Baumgardner.

Shirley graduated from Royalton High School in Minnesota in 1950. She married Burton Iverson on September 14, 1957 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were blessed to have celebrated over 66 wonderful years together.

After their marriage, Burt and Shirley immediately moved to Pittsville, Wisconsin, and assumed management of the People’s State Bank there. After 35 years of serving their community, they retired in 1992 and became snowbirds in Naples, Florida. Many new memories were made there.

Shirley was a kind, selfless person, always putting the needs of others before her own. She loved hosting large gatherings of family and friends and everyone felt her love. She absolutely loved parenting her three children and many of their friends, whom she welcomed with open arms.

Shirley was a member of the United Church of Christ in Pittsville, serving on the church council and teaching Sunday School. She was a Brownie Leader and served on the Pittsville Library Board.

She enjoyed Bridge Club, gardening, reading, and traveling. But her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her four grandchildren. She listened carefully to all they had to say, and took an interest in each of their lives.

Shirley is survived by her husband Burt; her children, Eric (Debra) Iverson of Watertown, Melinda (Burl) Pate of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Andrew Iverson of River Falls. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Adam and Emma Iverson and Devin and Connor Langford.

She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy (Jim) Stephens, Sherry (Marv) Kohlbeck, and Jan (Sam) Retka, along with her brother and sister-in-law Fred (Wendy) Baumgardner.

She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her grandson Nicholas Iverson, a sister Carole (Bob) Schmeider, a brother-in-law Aldrich (Lilamae) Iverson, and a sister-in-law Diane Baumgardner, as well as her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. David Sobek will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes.

Memorials can be directed to the Pittsville Library or the UCC in Pittsville.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Jennifer Neville and Shannon Hoffman for their kind and compassionate care of Mom. Also to all her caregivers at Stoney River Assisted Living and the House of the Dove Hospice in Marshfield.
