Stanley was born July 12, 1938, in Wisconsin Rapids, to Stanley John, I and Bertha Rose (Salzmann) Pelot. His father died when Stan was 10 years old and his mother later married James Milow who became his second father, who he loved very much. He attended school in Pittsville. He married Anola Margaret Janz on July 6, 1963, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids.

As a young man, Stan helped many area farmers plant and harvest crops. After getting his driver’s license, he worked for James Ronek at Pittsville Creamery. He picked up farmers milk cans and helped make cheese. In 1956 he started to work at the Bembow Foundry in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1958 he began employment at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids where he worked until 1979. He then fulfilled his dream to be a full-time farmer.

At the age of eight, Stan’s grandfather, James Pelot, gave Stan a draft horse named “Maggie”, which began his love of horses. He owned many quarter riding horses and raised, trained, and sold many Belgian draft horses over the years with the help of his children. He really enjoyed giving hayrides at family gatherings, parades, weddings, and other social events in Pittsville. He also participated in local horse pulls.

Stan loved all sports, following the Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers and was lucky to attend many games. He managed local softball and baseball teams. In 1975 his softball team won the “Big Mac” slow pitch tournament. He made many friends through sports. Stan also bowled on a few bowling teams. His greatest joy was watching his own children and grandchildren’s sporting events at Pittsville and away schools.

When the “Indian Pow Wow” was celebrated in Pittsville, chief of police, Fritz Heuer would deputize Stan to help with crowd control.

He loved to play sheepshead and played every week at local competition and each spring in the state tournament. He taught his children and grandchildren how to play the game. Deer hunting was an exciting occasion, where family and friends gathered on the Pelot farm searching for the big bucks on Stan’s land.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anola and their children, who he was very proud of, Stanley J. Pelot, III, Jeffrey J. Pelot, both of Pittsville, Eric J. (Christina) Pelot of Vesper, Curtis J. (Sherry) Pelot of Conway, Arkansas, and Susanne K. (Barry) Flanagan of Wisconsin Rapids. He is also survived by grandchildren, Olivia (Matthew Herman) Pelot, Dezerae Pelot, Vanessa Pelot, a great granddaughter, Lucy Herman, step grandchildren, Sarah Flanagan, and Eli (Hannah) Davis and step great grandchildren, Brogan and Keenan Flanagan. He is further survived by his brothers, James (Shirley) Pelot, Howard (Peggy) Pelot, Kenneth (Liz) Pelot and Patrick (Cheryl) Milow and in-laws, Robert (Karen) Janz, Annette (Kenneth) Schill, Thomas (Diane) Janz, Doris (Bruce) Marach and Gary (Bobbi) Janz.

Stan had been a foster father of several teenage boys and God father of Leann (John) Reckner, Theresa (William) Rogers, Nickolas Janz and James Milow. The Pelot’s hosted foreign exchange student Freddy Vargas from Costa Rica.

Stan was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law. When he became a great grandfather he said, “Now I’m a “great” great grandpa”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Bertha, his stepfather James Milow, parents-in-law, Jesse and Margaret Janz, a grandson Jared Pelot and his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Gerald Wittenberg and brother-in-law, Robert Janz, and nephews, Paul Ryszka and Nickolas Janz.

The family wishes to thank Compassus Hospice and special nurses, Tiffany, Jackie and Maranna.
